The 7900 GT is the first in Nvidia’s series of graphics ships based on their new 90nm technology resulting in a die that is only 196 sqmm. By comparison the ATI X1800XL, which is the closest competitor to the 7900 GT, has a die size of 352 sqmm making the 7900 GT roughly half the size of the ATI counterparts. The really cool part is that while the 7900 GT is half the size, it thoroughly trounces the ATI X1800XL in benchmarks and gaming. The 7900 GT also supports Nvidia’s Extreme High Definition (XHD) gaming with resolutions on a single 7900 GT reaching 1680 x 1050 on 20″ LCDs, dual 7900 GTs and 23″ LCDs can run at 1920 x 1200 and the ultimate gaming is with Quad SLI and 30″ LCD running at a whopping 2560 x 1600.
